The Charity Block Walk He Helped Organize...

So my husband Greg is in school to obtain his bachelors degree in nursing. Currently, he is taking a class that is a research class and the whole semester you choose one topic to research and do a final presentation. So Greg got paired up in his group with two other ladies and they choose the Sisters Network Inc.

The Sisters Network is a local charity/awareness group that tries to raise awareness about breast cancer among the African American population. As you can imagine this group struggles to get the word out that African American women do get breast cancer and need to be screened to protect themselves. I believe less African American women are diagnosed with breast cancer but more die from breast cancer because of lack of knowledge, health care and resources.

So Greg's group teamed up with the Sisters Network and helped organize the yearly block walk that they do to help educated their target community about breast health. He and his group worked together to design the flyer, the signs and the t-shirt for the event. Greg spent many nights recently working with the designs in photoshop. He also worked with local printers to help get these designs printed for the charity event.

From what I hear the walk was held yesterday and the charity was thrilled with the turnout and the information that they were able to distribute. Just to give you an example the director called Greg at work to tell him about the event and she stated that they were able to speak to a mother and help her realize that she needed to check herself for breast cancer because her daughter had just died from it. They lady had no idea and the director had to help the lady understand that her daughter got the "genes" from someone and that she needed to take care of herself. So needless to say Greg is very happy with what help he was able to provide to the awareness group.

Now all he has to do is present the final presentation and so far his power point is shaping up nicely.
