Thank You Grandma and Grandpa!

Shortly after my mom found out I was pregnant she started saving change in a couple of small piggy banks she got while out shopping. Once she filled them up she would then pass them on to me. I have been saving them and until now I have not counted how much change was in them. I thought since it is getting close to the time of his arrival I could open them up and see what they were able to save for baby Julian. Well the grand total for today is $86.00! I am very excited about this and I thank you Momma and Daddy for helping him start saving for his future.

So now in the next short while I am going to try to figure out what is the best thing to do with the money. The options I have been thinking about are a savings bond, a high interest online savings account, a CD or opening a 529 college savings plan. I am really not sure what would be best to do for him at this time. I am hoping that as each year goes by for Christmas and for birthdays we can accumulate a small amount of money on his behalf and make sure it gets contributed to his savings. He is not going to like it but I really, really want him to learn the value of saving a dollar and learn to love watching his savings account grow rather than shrink in size.

So the pigs sit empty right now but don't worry I have an old bank that my dad gave me years ago that is now getting weekly contributions.
